Give ART with Your HEART: OC's Annual Art Supply Drive

https://www.facebook.com/GiveArtWithYourHeart

I have some beautiful news to share with all of you...

In the past couple of weeks, without knowing how big it was going to become, my compadre, Yenny Bernal, and I organized an Art Supply Drive in correlation with the non-profit art gallery in the Artist's Village of Santa Ana - Avantgarden the Art Gallery - where we both hold a membership and show our work. We are not only artists, but also art instructors, where we both see and experience the need for a variety of art supplies in order to instill in students the beneficial ways in which art can enhance their education and life. We see it first-hand every single day, and being inspired by the holiday season of giving, I wanted a way to give back to our community in the best way we know how - with art supplies! And without even knowing what would happen next, we started the idea of this drive for needed art supplies and from there it took off! Like a rocket ship!!

More and more local galleries started to take on our mission and now we have a wonderful ANNUAL Art Supply Drive going on involving the Orange County Center of Contemporary Arts and CSUF's Grand Central Art Center, and hopefully more next year! Then came the question.... WHO WILL WE BE DONATING ALL THIS TO? We put out our intention and the Universe came back to us, and she came back with more than we could have dreamed...

The school we connected with, OCEAA, also known as the Orange County Educational Arts Academy, needed us just as much as we needed them. When we met with the Director of Arts Instruction, Erica Vicario, we couldn't have imagined what the possibilities we were bringing with us... She told us of the HUGE need for the students to connect to the art community just around the corner from their urban school in Downtown Santa Ana. Erica mentioned that when she would talk about events in the Artist's Village her students would barely know what she was saying.. due to the fact that the connection between Santa Ana youth and professional artists is quite invisible these days.. WE WERE ASTONISHED! We felt so much gratitude for being put in the perfect place at the right time in order to bridge our very own COMMUNITY where the idea of CREATIVITY and EDUCATION can flourish together. (We have much more ideas stemming from this tiny bit of information so stay tuned for more!) :)

Now that we had our school... the support just kept on flooding in... and still is! One major event was that this story, our story, was PUBLISHED IN THE SANTA ANA REGISTER NEWSPAPER!! Written by the awesome David Lopez at Life in the Golden City. Wow, another astonishing moment for us to live a dream we didn't know was reachable at this point in our Life. But doesn't it go to show.. how the impossible can be made in to the possible? How we can accomplish our dreams without even a second look? How our hearts coincide with our mission in Life? It is a rare and beautiful thing and we thank YOU for the support you have all shown to us.
